A celebration of the cultural and spiritual wonderland that is Thailand / 14 nights
This journey typically begins in mid November or mid April, but Thailand is a cultural and spiritual wonderland at any time of year, so you can either take your pick, or go whenever suits you. You’ll learn about and enjoy the very best of Thai culture, flying into imperial Bangkok and soaking in the city. You’ll enjoy private tours of majestic temples and palaces, unwind via the ancient art of Thai massage and taste its culinary curiosities. Any trip to the city is cause for celebration, and we guarantee you’ll enjoy Bangkok’s uber-eclectic nightlife. For those of you into the party scene, Songkran, or Thai New Year (in April) offers Asia’s largest gay dance festival, G-Circuit.
For those looking for something more authentic, you’ll head North to the Lanna capital of Chiang Mai, where you’ll come face to face with old-world Thailand – from 750 year old temples to night-markets just as old. Here you’ll take part in the annual purification ceremony (also known as the world’s largest water fight) for Songkran, or if your visit is timed in November, you can experience Loy Krathong, the magical festival of light, where thousands of lanterns are set flying into the night sky and floating down the river.
Your journey will then continue to the breathtakingly beautiful Krabi in the country’s south, to sample the powdery sandy beaches and deep emerald green waters of the Andaman Sea. Here you can try your hand at rock-climbing, arguably one of the world’s best places to do so – and when you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with a view that will make you gasp out loud. But this part of the journey is really about relaxation, sun, sea and sand – and you’ll leave knowing why Thai people have a real love affair with the beach.
